How to make a 3D QR Code

How to make a 3 Dimensional QR Code

Ingredients:

  • Equal parts white and black Perler beads
  • Perler peg board
  • Household iron

Directions:

  1. Place beads on peg board with patience so it comes out right
  2. Use iron to fuse beads together
  3. Once cool remove beads from board
  4. Scan with mobile device to access Internet link

This was a fun project and a novel way to make a dimensional QR code.
There were a lot of beads to place down, took loads of caffeine to get it all done! Happily it scans nicely and now I have a QR coaster!

Requires red/cyan glasses to see the 3D effect.

  • 2 – Then relax your view so the images move together and you see only 3 images.
  • 3 – When you see 3 images stop changing your focus – see the center image is 3D.

3D QR Barcodes!

QR codes by definition are 2D bar codes since they have an X and Y axis. On this site we will explore the third dimension with respect to adding the Y axis and rendering codes in stereoscopic 3D.

Our goal is two fold:

  • Explore the artistic limits of what can be visualized in stereo.
  • Explore the technical limits of what can be scanned and decoded.
